Several arrested as local weather activists block most important freeway in The Hague

Climate activists from the Dutch department of Extinction Rebellion blocked visitors at a serious entry and exit level to town of The Hague.

Climate activists from Extinction Rebellion blocked a most important street within the Dutch metropolis of The Hague on Saturday.

Authorities had banned the protest and police erected screens and fences on the A12 motorway to attempt to stop protesters from reaching the street on foot.

However, a number of hundred protesters in smaller teams made it to the freeway, and the blockade prevented metropolis visitors from coming into or exiting that stretch of street.

Some protesters have been arrested however police didn’t say what number of. Water cannons have been additionally used to quell the protest.

In current years this part of the freeway has been frequently blocked by the Dutch department of the local weather group Extinction Rebellion. They are towards the federal government’s plans for fossil gas subsidies.

The new right-wing authorities reintroduces beforehand abolished subsidies.

“It’s a long-term protest to cease fossil subsidies. We must maintain protesting,” one protester stated.

Another protester stated he was indignant that the Dutch authorities “donates 47 billion euros yearly to essentially the most polluting firm within the Netherlands.”
