KUALA LUMPUR: More than 37,000 individuals have been affected by flooding brought on by torrential rains in six Malaysian states this week, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stated on Thursday (Nov 28).
Anwar informed parliament that 322 short-term shelters had been opened within the states of Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Perlis, Johor and Perak to accommodate these displaced by the floods.
The northeastern state of Kelantan, which borders Thailand, was the worst hit, with 30,582 individuals from 9,223 households affected, Anwar stated.
Floods are widespread on Malaysia’s east coast in the course of the annual monsoon season, from October to March, and displaces hundreds of individuals yearly.
