Guardians lower Game 1 starter Alex Cobb from ALCS roster, add Ben Lively

Pitcher Alex Cobb was left off the Cleveland Guardians AL Championship Series roster after being injured in Tuesday’s opener and was changed Tuesday by fellow right-hander Ben Lively, the crew’s winningest pitcher through the common season.

Cobb left Monday’s 5-2 loss to the New York Yankees after 2 2/3 innings due to hip stiffness and a again spasm. Cobb is ineligible to pitch for the rest of the postseason.

Lively, a 32-year-old right-hander, was 13-10 with a 3.81 ERA in 29 begins. The final time he pitched was Sept. 28 towards Houston, on the penultimate day of the common season.

Cobb fell to 0-2 with a 7.94 ERA within the playoffs, making simply his fifth begin in an injury-limited 12 months. A 2023 All-Star, he underwent hip surgical procedure on Oct. 31 and had not but returned to the mound when he was acquired from Cleveland by San Francisco on the July 30 commerce deadline.
