Nearly 20,000 individuals visited Sydney Botanic Gardens to odor an endangered plant often called the “corpse flower” because it bloomed.
Nicknamed Putricia, the titan arum plant emits a putrid odor likened to “one thing rotting” or “scorching rubbish” for twenty-four hours after flowering.
The odor is the results of a chemical manufacturing that happens within the plant to draw pollinators.
The endangered flower, native to Sumatra, Indonesia, solely blooms each 7 to 10 years within the wild. There are believed to be fewer than 1,000 vegetation on this planet, together with these in cultivation.
